Official Final Fantasy III DS North American Release Date Announced

Following the results of their survey, Square-Enix announced in October, 2004 that the company would be remaking Final Fantasy III for the DS. The game will be coming out this week in Japan and in a few short months, on November 14, English-speaking fans in North America will be able to enjoy for the first time the only numbered Final Fantasy that has never been released outside of Japan.
Since the E3 report, Square-Enix has revealed details about one other new feature exclusive to the remake: the game will utilize the DS’s Wi-Fi capability. This new wireless feature supports the Mognet which fans should be familiar with from Final Fantasy IX. The Mognet will function in a fashion similar to the way it did in Final Fantasy IX. On their quest, the main characters will run into moogles scattered throughout the world that will allow gamers to send mail to previously encountered characters. Doing so can open up side quests or result in rewards. Through the DS’s wireless connection, mail can also be sent to other players though Square-Enix has been keeping its mouth closed on what specific goodies the wireless part of the Mognet will have to offer.
Also of note, Nintendo and Square-Enix have teamed up to release a limited edition bundle of the game called the “Final Fantasy III Crystal Edition” which will include a Nintendo DS Lite with the game’s logo and character art on the cover. The bundle is priced at 22,780 yen ($198) and as of yet there are no plans to release this bundle in North America or Europe.
