First picture of FFXII has been released!

 December 27th, 2002

A poster of FFXII has been released in a Japanese magazine called Dorigama, showing breathtaking scenery from a modern city. It looks like FF12 is a leap towards a totally different kind of world. You can see a futuristic airship in the sky and a metropolis filled with skyscrapers. Interestingly enough the front buildings seem to be like growing plants, and some of the people walking in the city seem transparent – almost like ghosts. We're really looking forward to what the actual game will be like. It looks like it will be something original for a change.

Square has got a promising set of game developers working on their newest title. Jun Akiyama who previously worked on Square's second biggest hit - FF7 - will work as production supervisor. 3D map and character designs are by Akihiro Yoshida, who was part of the FFT and Vagrant Story development teams. Hideo Minaba, who's been working on FF10 and FFT, is the art director. There have also been rumours that Nobuo Uematsu will be back and composing the music for FF12, but we'll see about that.

Only two images are available right now. The poster and other page scanned from Dorigama, showing the staff and some artwork sketches from the game.

FF12 Concept Art & Development Team
This is the image Square have released, as you can see it offers little other than the merest tantalising glimpse of what is to come.
Some of the concept art from FF12, as well as photographs of some of the members of it's development team.

When the game will come out is still a mystery. Square is still working on the North American and European releases of FF11, and the sequels of FFX, so FF12 probably isn't going to be coming out anytime soon.
