Whoop-ee-dooo

 April 11th, 2002 - Oh man. Oh man, oh man. Ideally, this article should be dated 'April 11th 2000' and I should be feeling young and exuberant, full of the youthful enthusiasm that would make my keyboard steam as I frantically get the words from my head to the screen. Instead, it's two years too late and I'm struggling to string two sentences together.

Anyway, the recent release of Final Fantasy VI in the UK (approximately eight years late, incidentally) seems to have encouraged the release of 'Final Fantasy Anthology' onto these dusty shelves. Rumour has it, it took eight people from Square Europe to get the game released over here, but rumours are rumours and, to be frank, they're crap.

What will you be doing on the 31st of May? Getting ready for a Football tournament? Studying for [insert appropriate exam name here]? Or will you be someone in Europe playing Final Fantasy X. Well, one thing for sure, I would rather be watching the world cup, though I would play Final Fantasy X more if the tournament wasn't on.

Rumours say it was going to be released in the west as Final Fantasy Extreme in 1995...	...but nothing ever materialised until Final Fantasy Anthology was released in 1999 for the PSX.

Square-Europe have treated the good people of Europe like something you'd scrape of the sole of your shoe after a walk in the park with the release dates of games; Final Fantasy VI launches in Europe three years after its remake on the United States Playstation's, etc, etc. By popular demand, Square-Europe has finally decided to release a 50HZ, boarder-filled version of Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy V, thus becoming the European Edition of Final Fantasy Anthology.

Set for a launch in May, at a price of around £20 (That is around €33 Euros to our continental readers), Final Fantasy Anthology will most probably take Europe by storm due to its fanbase. For the first time, non-importers or emulator people in Europe can follow the adventures of Cecil, Rosa, Butz/Bartz and Leena/Reina. But we still reckon it'll sell about two less than a dozen.

Ståle: Nice to see Square is finally trying to improve relations with european gamers. Even if they are 8 years late.

Danny: I've got ff6 for the playstation. I had it on import around a year and a half ago. It's a pretty poor show that FF6 has finally appeared in the UK stores, because its been a long, long time. As many people have experienced Final Fantasy, I personally think that this game should have come out around the time of FFVII. On the subject, FFVI should have appeared with FFV as that too, it is truly a joy to play...

Theblackvegetable: I think it's really great, though I think they've waited for too long...

Karen: I think it's about time they got the finger out and started releasing those older games here. They know they have a ton of fans in Europe and why they've held out against taking our money off us for so long is a complete mystery.
